Circuit Breaker tripping? Here's what to Do!
Frequent tripping of the circuit breaker is due to shorted alligator Clips. When the launch leads fall away as the rocket flies, the alligator Clips may come to rest touching together. This can create a short circuit, which will trip the breaker. To reduce the risk of this happening:
- Tell your rocketeers to release the launch button as soon as the rocket flies,
- Always switch off the channel just launched, so that those leads are no longer energized.
The 10 Amp thermal breaker will pass more than 10 Amps of current for a fraction of a second, then trip. Shorted launch leads are the most common cause of the breaker tripping. The breaker may be reset by pressing the white button with 10A printed on it.
All of the sudden the system is not switching properly. The system uses an ethernet cable as an extension. These cables are cheap and widely available, however they can break with rough use. I expect 2-5 years of regular use, unless someone is stepping on or driving over or pulling tight the cable. If this happens to you, it is almost certainly a bad Ethernet cable. I recommend carrying a spare 50' Ethernet cable in case of breakage.
You can do a quick test any time with any Ethernet cable. You can test on a table, indoors if you wish. You can use a small segment (< 1/2") of one leg of a spent igniter to test fireing the controller.
